Fractional Order AGC for Distributed Energy Resources Using Robust Optimization

The applicability of fractional order (FO) automatic generation control (AGC) for power system frequency oscillation damping is investigated in this paper, employing distributed energy generation. The hybrid power system employs various autonomous generation systems like wind turbine, solar photovoltaic, diesel engine, fuel-cell, and aqua electrolyzer, along with other energy storage devices like the battery and […]

To each according to his needs: Dimensioning video buffer for specific user profiles and behavior

Today’s video streaming platforms offer videos in a variety of quality settings in order to attract as many users as possible. But even though a sufficiently dimensioned network can not always be provided for the best experience, users are asking for high QoE. Users consume the content of a video streaming platform in different ways, while video […]

An N-path UE with recourse for traffic assignment

Traffic assignment plays an essential role in transportation planning because it offers methods to predict the flow allocation on paths and evaluating the performance of traffic network. The conventional user equilibrium(UE) makes sure that no road user will change routing choices unilaterally due to the risk of more loss. In this paper, we consider more complicated […]

Enhancing Optical-CDMA Confidentiality With Multicode-Keying Encryption

Optical codes with large cardinality and tree structures of multiple subsets of codewords for adjustable code performance and cardinality have recently been proposed. As studied in this paper, these characteristics support multicode-keying encryption for enhancing physical-layer confidentiality in optical code-division multiple-access systems and networks. The concept of the multicode-keying encryption technique is introduced. The associated all-optical […]

A Split MAC Approach for SDR Platforms

Implementation of carrier sensing-based medium access control (MAC) protocols on inexpensive reconfigurable radio platforms has proven challenging due to long and unpredictable delays associated with both signal processing on a general purpose processor (GPP) and the interface between the radio frequency (RF) front end and the GPP. This paper describes the development and implementation of […]

Mobile Agent-Based Service Migration

Mobile agents are special software agents that can move spontaneously across multiple hosts of one or more networks. In case of a malicious attack and system failure, mobile agents can move from their damaged platforms to other clean, healthy platforms so that the services they offer can be continuously provided on the new platforms, thus achieving […]

Dependable Systems Modeling and Reliability Property Evaluation by Model Checking

Modeling for dependability is an established method in the domain of information systems. Most approaches dealing with structural or probabilistic modeling do not consider time information. This paper presents an approach for modeling dependable information systems for fault prediction. Established analysis techniques are applied to a particular learned model. These should reveal path to failure […]

Developing intelligent logistics – Building a competence model for logistics systems engineer

Logistics is an interdisciplinary field. Modern logisticians need to integrate business management skills with technology design, IT systems know-how and other engineering fields. However, based on research of university curricula and competence standards in logistics, the engineering aspect is not represented in full potential. There are a few treatments of logistician competences relating to engineering, […]

Distributed greedy sparse recovery for through-the-wall radar imaging

A modified distributed orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm is presented for sparse scene reconstruction in through-the-wall radar imaging applications. A distributed network of radar systems, each equipped with a single transmitter and an array of receivers, is considered. Ray-tracing based numerical simulation results are provided which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Managing inter-cell interference with advanced receivers and rank adaptation in 5G small cells

The use of receivers with interference suppression capabilities is expected to be a significant performance booster in 5th Generation (5G) ultra-dense small cell networks. In this respect, they could represent an alternative to traditional frequency reuse techniques, facilitating the inter-cell interference management. In this paper, we evaluate whether it is possible to rely on such advanced […]
