Towards the integration of monitoring systems to support the evaluation of nearly Zero Energy Buildings through Key Performance Indicators

Monitoring systems are one of the pivotal diagnosis tools for the analysis of the energy performance in buildings. They provide on-site information and support the decision making process. Moreover, monitoring systems allow the calculation of energy and comfort indicators, despite, large buildings do not provide a single sensor network. So, with the aim of integrating multiple […]

Thermal Rating of a Submerged Substation for Wave Power

The costs of offshore maintenance operations put high reliability-requirements on offshore equipment for ocean energy, especially on submerged ones. Thermal management is thus essential in the design of the prototypes of a marine substation, developed at Uppsala University, for grid interface of wave power parks. The cooling system itself should be efficient as well as […]

Single Microring-Based 2×2 Silicon Photonic Crossbar Switches

Realizing small-footprint and energy-efficient optical switching fabrics is of crucial importance to solve the data movement challenges faced by optical interconnection networks. This article demonstrates silicon photonic 2×2 full crossbar switching functionality based on a single microring. The ultra-compact device is shown to successfully switch data channels from two input ports simultaneously. Data channels in both […]

Distributed greedy sparse recovery for through-the-wall radar imaging

A modified distributed orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm is presented for sparse scene reconstruction in through-the-wall radar imaging applications. A distributed network of radar systems, each equipped with a single transmitter and an array of receivers, is considered. Ray-tracing based numerical simulation results are provided which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Drivers and aspects of 2.5/3D integration as a potential game-changer

Summary form only given. It is increasingly clear that performance and capacity improvements predicated on Moore’s law will not be sufficient to meet projected overall capacity demands in anetworked society – in fact more than Moore will be needed. One way to meet these demands is enabled by 2.5D and 3D integration on chip-level. In this […]

Managing inter-cell interference with advanced receivers and rank adaptation in 5G small cells

The use of receivers with interference suppression capabilities is expected to be a significant performance booster in 5th Generation (5G) ultra-dense small cell networks. In this respect, they could represent an alternative to traditional frequency reuse techniques, facilitating the inter-cell interference management. In this paper, we evaluate whether it is possible to rely on such advanced […]

Thwarting Intelligent Malicious Behaviors in Cooperative Spectrum Sensing

Sensing falsification is a key security threat in cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radionetworks. Intelligent malicious users (IMUs) adjust their malicious behaviors according to their objectives and the network’s defense schemes. Without long-term collection of information on users’ reputation, the existing schemes fail to thwart such malicious behaviors. In this paper, we construct a joint […]

A Generalized Approach for Computing Most Sensitive Eigenvalues With Respect to System Parameter Changes in Large-Scale Power Systems

The recently-developed Two-sided Arnoldi and Sensitive Pole Algorithm (TSA-SPA) is effective and robust in computing the most sensitive eigenvalues with respect to control parameter changes in large-scale power systems. This paper extends the TSA-SPA to handle different system parameters, including control, system operating and network parameters. The proposed algorithm makes use of perturbation in reduced matrix obtained […]

All Silk-Screen Printed Polymer-Based Remotely Readable Temperature Sensor

In this paper, we present the fabrication and characterization results of a remotely readable flexible temperature sensor. The sensor has been fabricated with screen printing technology and it consists of a polymer-based capacitor (ASAHI CR18-KTI polymer paste) as a temperature sensitive component added to the antenna coil (ASAHI LS411-AW silver paste) for remote reading purposes. […]

Influence of shunt compensation with SVC devices on resonance risk in power systems

Many analyses are required to locate a new reactive power source in a power system. The choice of a location is a very complex matter which requires various aspects to be considered. Selecting a location also entails the necessity to assess it from the point of view of the selected compensator’s structure as well as […]
